Maria Sumnick Buckley Maria Sumnick Buckley has been writing plays and performing since she was a young child. Her first play, "The Magic Rock", was performed for relatives and the entire neighborhood back in Clifton, New Jersey. Back then she was known as Maria Torelli. In High School, Torelli received a scholarship to attend Montclair's leading theatre group. She was given a minor role as a blind child in "The Miracle Worker", but the reviews read, "...Maria brought tears to the audience before Helen's miracle appeared." At the age of 15 Torelli was the only adolescent to be given a part in an adult community theatre group. She was the lead in both "Cinderella" and "Hansel and Gretel." Torelli went on to attend Monclair State College's summer theater workshop, where she participated in all aspects of theatre. She later moved to Florida where she received an award for her performance as Maria Morelli in a local theatre's production of "Lend Me A Tenor". After years of performing in community theatres, Buckley was offered roles in dinner theater productions, as well as murder mystery dinner theatre productions. Buckley was later honored with the People's Choice Award for her performance in "Murder At Howard Johnsons." Buckley is a recent graduate of Eckerd College. She has a B.A in Human Development which she says helps capture the emotions of the characters she creates. Buckley began writing plays for Murder Mystery Comedy Dinner Theatre in 1998 and has formed her own troupe, MurderS She Wrote, Inc. The troupe has performed for country club socials, culture center gatherings, private parties, tour group outings, corporate functions, and charity fundraisers throughout the Tampa Bay Area.
